Latest One UI 8.5 beta update may have fixed an AirDrop issue

Latest One UI 8.5 beta update may have fixed an AirDrop issue

Samsung released a new One UI 8.5 beta update to several devices yesterday. In addition to bringing Galaxy AI features from the Galaxy S26 series to older devices, the update may have also fixed a recently reported AirDrop-related issue.

Images sent from Galaxy devices to Apple devices retain location data

It was previously observed that images transferred from Galaxy devices to Apple devices were missing important EXIF data, such as location information. Samsung had confirmed the issue and suggested that Quick Share might have been stripping location data during transfers. The company promised a fix in a future One UI 8.5 beta update, and it appears that the issue has now been resolved.

After installing the latest One UI 8.5 beta update on eligible Galaxy devices, we noticed that images sent to Apple devices now retain location data.

Some users had also reported missing lens-related metadata. However, we were unable to reproduce that issue, so it remains unclear whether it was widespread or has been fixed.

Samsung has already released ten One UI 8.5 beta updates for the Galaxy S25 series, suggesting that the stable version could arrive soon.
